Pictures by Ray Tipper - More about Ray...
The Water Rail can be infuriatingly difficult to see, although it is not especially shy, its invisibility is a product of its preferred habitat of dense reedbeds and waterside vegetation. Long, slim, reddish bill immediately distinguishes it from other rails and crakes. Sexes similar. Voice a wide range of loud grunts, squeals and screams.
