Crested Lark - Galarida crestata

Pictures - John Foss

The Crested Lark inhabits dry saltmarsh edges, farmland and sandy tracks with plenty of good woody vegetation cover where it feeds on
seeds and insects. The distinctive crest on the top of the bird's head remains upright nearly all the time but is particularly obvious during the mating season. The specimens on this page were photographed in the saltpans at Cabanas De Tavira and in the reedbeds at Vilamoura.
