Dartford Warbler - Sylvia undata

Pictures - John Foss

The Dartford Warbler inhabits dense thorny scrubland with plenty of gorse bushes or cistus, where it prefers to nest. They are predominantly insect feeders, but have also been observed feeding on worms. Dartford Warblers are very vulnerable to harsh winters and are now very local in the UK. The Algarve is one of the better places to see this bird and the specimen on this page was photographed at Foia near Monchique.
